∙ 11y agoOne can assume he was maritime-oriented, as was Columbus, but we know very little about the origins of the man who, let"s face it discovered Manhattan and the Hudson River in l609. He was a professional seaman and hired out to both Dutch- under the handle of Hendrick Hudson, and British interests. Even the Funk and Wagnalls encyclopedia admits they know little about Hudson"s background prior to his exploratory voyages with the Half Moon.
