He was an American astronaut and the first person to walk on the moons surface.

Armstrong joined NASA's astronaut corps in 1962 and made his first space flight as commander pilot of Gemini 8.

In 1966 he became NASA's first civilian astronaut to fly in space. On this mission he performed the first docking of 2 spacecraft. His second and final spaceflight was as mission commander of Apollo 11 moon landing in July 1969.
