Horrible, the conditions were very poor but people were desperate to hold on to these jobs. They barely got paid enough to make end's meet and was much less than the work they had to put in. Regardless of age they were forced to work in areas that were extremely dangerous and unhealthy. The standard of living was very low and unsatisfactory. There were no pension systems so they had to keep working even at old ages. Children had to work and bring home money, after they stopped allowing children to work they threw them out since they didn't have the money to keep them. Women were payed less then men.

The conditions were okay. They were having a governmental problems.

Absolutely nothing becacause there was nothing to do
Prior to that time, most managers viewed workers as a device that could be bought and sold like any other possession. Long hours, low wages, and miserable working conditions were the realities of the average worker's life.
terrible unhealthy and dangerous
They worked long hours in dangerous conditions with no benefits.
Factory workers (and just about any other kind of worker you can think of) join unions to improve working conditions. By standing together as part of a union workers can have power to bargain for better working conditions, pay, and benefits. Alone a worker is just begging, he has little choice; he can accept the poor conditions, he can quit (sometimes the employer will try to find a reason to get rid of the employee, before he can try to organize other workers against the company, which is illegal), or he can try to form a union.

Working conditions in factories and on agricultural estates were harsh, with long hours, low wages, and little to no protection for workers. This exploitation contributed to peasant unrest before the Russian Revolution by fueling grievances over economic inequality, poverty, and lack of basic rights for workers. These conditions, coupled with growing discontent towards the autocratic Tsarist regime, created a fertile ground for revolutionary sentiments to take hold.

Without this ability workers don't have leverage nor due process. Before the 40 hour work week, lunch breaks and breaks on the job, overtime, and other rights given to workers a company could demand that a worker work 10, 12- 14 hours without breaks or dinner. Working conditions were set by the employer and if the employee didn't like it they would loose their job. In 1886 7 people died getting these rights for workers. Working conditions were awful for workers before unions. There were cases ( a shirt factory) where workers were locked into their place of work, not allowed to go to bathroom, and treated without regard. Unions and the right to strike have given workers a voice in how they are to be treated, evaluated, and fired. Without these rights workers will step back a 100 years into the time where they had no voice.
