There are several things I learned about George Washington from a kids book of all things. Failures. He lost 6 of 9 battles that he led. He did not have biological children. Of course he failed to keep his teeth! Just a few from Skylar and George Washington at http://www.skylardog.com
Growing up George Had been known as Carver George. When he started school he went by the name: "George Carver". He later added the W and told his friends it was Washington. That's how he got the name "George Washington Carver"

It's not known what was hard for George Washington when he was growing up because most of his childhood isn't well documented. It is know, however, that he lost his father when he was 11 and was raised by his brother and his wife afterwards.
George Washington was a planter by profession before and after his military and public service careers. As an owner of slaves, he did not involve himself in the field work of growing crops.
