What were some of Erich Von Daniken's theories?

Essentially, Mankind got too smart too fast, and Von Daniken credits this to alien intervention in the dim past. The theories are spread pretty thin, but he does have some interesting points. Other writers, such as David Childress ( love that last name,it was the maiden name of President Polk"s wife!) pronounced Chill-Dress an evening gown for suspended animation, huh. Anyhow Childress seems to be more Ground level than Von Daniken and hints at secret science of terrestrial origin that m ay have been kept secret for religious reasons.. as in Pyramidology, et al.
