The low morale of the soldiers was for the most part on account of the actual warfare. For many soldiers most of their time in Vietnam was mostly taken up by just walking around with little action to be found. Other problems were the frustration of being shot at by enemies that were absolutely no where to be found, mostly because of the Vietcongs familiarty of the landscape and their use of geurilla warfare. Another reason for their low morale was the feeling of not being backed by their country. Many soldiers knew of accounts of soldiers who came back to have strangers spit in their faces. Also many soldiers that were drafted to participate in the war were strongly against it so therefore they were likely to have low morale upon getting their draft statement. hope this was helpful

∙ 10y agoThe mission was unclear, and often territory that we fought hard to clear of the enemy was abandoned after the battle was done, so that the enemy could re-occupy the very same land again.
Very little support from home (except from family members) also added to the low morale.

∙ 11y agoWe did our job. There was no pleasure in it but we did our job. We came home to a government that betrayed us and a people that turned there back on us. We came out of the mud and the blood one day and the next we are in California and being told now don't you break anything. I have never killed a baby and never seen anyone kill a baby but was called a bay killer alone with many others. PTSD was not treated then. The people that could have helped us did not want us around. The WW 11 veterans told us they did not want us in there WFWs. If you spit on a cop you go to jail. Spit on a Viet Nam Vet and no one cared.

∙ 11y agoBecause we were ultimately losing the war. The Viet Cong knew the land so well that there was no hope for us to win. Especially with the tunnel system that the Viet Cong controlled. They were able to use these tunnels to go straight into U.S. camps during the night and kill the soldiers or steal their supplies. The U.S. soldiers pretty much had no chance inwinning the war and they knew that. Plus they had to watch their brothers get blown away by the enemy.
