Large cities and sometimes their suburbs were divided into zones, numbered starting at 1. This system was not used in small towns. When the ZIPcode system was introduced in 1963, sometimes the zone became the last 2 digits.

Olden days means of transportation in the United States usually was by horse and buggy or just a horse. The Egyptians used barges to get from one place to another on the Nile River. Early Greeks and Romans used a chariot to get around.
