Patriots from around the nation sent help. Women collected food, medicine, warm clothes, and ammunition for the army. Some women, like Martha Washington, wife of the commander, went to Valley Forge to help the sick and wounded.
They tried to stay alive. It was very cold and awful for them. Little cabins were built but it was hard to stay warm. When Washington attacked Trenton some of his troops didn't have shoes and left bloody prints in the snow. It is amazing they did what they did and stayed with Washington. It just shows his command of the troops.

For the first months, the soldiers were living in tents which provided little help from the cold. The soldiers lacked proper clothing -- many without shoes or warm clothes. When soldiers had to go out in the cold, they would share clothing. It wasn't until February, 1778, that the men finished building huts to live in, with fireplaces to keep them warm.
Beron Van Steuban, a french general, sent supplies to the soldiers but not many of them survived.

There was NO war at valley forge. The Continental army (led by general George Washington) stoped at valley forge during the winter and trained. After the winter at valley forge there was a battle.
