Some people tried not to catch the black death by staying home and away from other humans. The Pope at the time of the black death spent hours sitting down between two hot fires trying to scare away the "evil spirits" that gave people the black death.

I'm not entirely sure what they avoided, but I know a few methods they used to try and keep the black death away. They would burn the bodies of the victims, they would wear posies (a type of flower) because they were worried the smell of the black death woiuld get them. They would avoid anyone showing symptoms. I think this is also where the phrase 'bless you' when someone sneezes came from. That was one of the signs that you had the black death so if you sneezed, people would bless you to get better. They prayed for good health a lot, being very religous. I think that's about all I can remember about the plague, hope I was of some help.

Why death penalty is not good in civilized society?

Actually, opinions on this vary. But the tendency, nowadays, is that a majority of people think that the death penalty is uncivilized. Some arguments against the death penalty is that it is used disproportionately against ethnic minorities (for example, black people in the United States), and that it is irreversible (and there have been many cases where people executed, or people who were planned to be executed, turned out to be innocent). For further arguments, both for and against the death penalty, I suggest you consult the Wikipedia article on "Death penalty".
