He gets a surname?
he was considered an unusual man because he was smart and did wiered things like no other people could do
Benjamin Banneker, a free black man, spent the majority of his life in Maryland: he was born in Baltimore County, and later lived in Ellicott's Mills (today known as Ellicott City). But he also lived and worked in the Capital District (today Washington DC), and he may also have lived and worked in Alexandria, Virginia.
Benjamin Banneker made the first striking clock to be made completely in America. He published an Almanac from 1791 to 1796. He helped to survey the District of Columbia. He published a treatise on bees, did a mathematical study on the cycle of seventeen year locust and wrote passionately about the antislavery movement.
they are really cute!
There is no documented evidence to suggest that Banneker belonged to any particular religious sect; however, he is known to have visited Quaker meetings. He believed in the Christian bible as taught to him by his grandmother, white English indentured servant Molly Welsh. He had a strong faith in the "fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man." In the book that I am writing on Banneker, I suggest that he has had two major spiritual influences in his life: Quakers and Masons.
