In both of its wars against Great Britain (the War for Independence and the War of 1812), America took up arms mainly on behalf of its political integrity and to put a halt to abuses of its citizens by the royalist government of Great Britain. Fighting for respect as well as seeking to defend (and even expand) economic wealth were additional factors involved.
The US declared war for several reasons, including, but not limited to, the impressment of American merchant sailors into Britain's Royal Navy and trade restrictions caused by the British war with France. Possible annexation of Britain's North American territory (modern-day Canada) was also in the mix.
I don't agree that the war between Britain and Germany was inevitable because they could always have peace proposals and peace talks where they will talk about what will they do for the betterment of each countries.

It's the Zimmermann Telegraph. Basically, Germany was like, "Mexico, help us and we will give you your land that America took from you." Britain deciphered the telegram and then sent it along public lines to America. This way Germany would think that someone betrayed Germany. America received the telegram.

First, America was secretly helping the Allies, Britain France, by sending them supplies. Then America decided to cut off trading with Japan. This made Japan bomb Hawaii (Pearl Harbor) and the next day John F Kennedy declared war on Japan thus bringing them into the war because Germany and Japan were allies and Germany declared war on America.
The British formed a blockade around America by surrounding America with their powerful navy. They obviously had to do something before they really attack them. The British also divided America, in order to get America united once again they had to have victory against the British. And they did when they won the war of 1812!
