More than likely, the allies would have had to launch an invasion on the main island of Japan itself, judging by the conduct of Japan in other theatres there would have been millions of casualties, and the war would probably have went on until the 1950's
7 alternatives:

1-US solo invasion of Japan using paratroopers, and a naval landing on the islands surrounding the southern tip of Japan, as well as the beaches of southern Japan.

2-US/Allied invasion of japan, this was the most well known plan for the destruction of Japan. The estimated troop losses would be roughly 1million US troops, 500 thousand British troops, 800 thousand to 1 million Soviet troops. however, this would have created a split occupation of japan after the war, akin to the occupation of Germany. The US did not want any Soviet influence in Japan after the war.

3-conventional bombing Japan into submission. This is an option, but it was not very likely to work. The Japanese are a proud people, and they would "fight to the last man" before surrendering.

4-Total blockade, and siege. this option was also viable, however it would have been immeasurably more cruel than the use of nuclear weapons. The people of Japan would never surrender to this tactic until their population was so devastated the entire country might die.

5-a combination nuclear invasion. after the Manhattan project was deemed a success, the invasion plans were rewritten to include the use of this new atomic weapon. modern knowledge about the after affects of radiation was not available, so the plan was to avoid a d-day like slaughter, bomb the beaches to be landed on, and then land there less than 48 hours later.

Who took over the Pearl Harbor?

Technically no one took over Pearl Harbor, but on December 7, 1941 @ 7:55 a.m. the Japanese attacked it in hopes of destroying everything they could. This attack sent the Americans into the second Worl War. The Americans got their revenge by dropping bombs in Japan.

What happened when USA dropped nuclear bomb on japan?

Japan surrendered, ending WW2. This took only the first 2 bombs of the 23 bombs scheduled to be dropped in 1945 should Japan refuse to surrender. Except for the MK-I gun bomb dropped on Hiroshima, the rest of these were MK-III implosion bombs like the one dropped on Nagasaki. The bombing schedule was 3 each in August, September, and October; 7 each in November and December.

What year did you bomb Japan?

Well I personally didn't do it but the United States dropped two atom bombs on Japan in 1945. There was also the Doolittle raid in 1942 using conventional bombs and several other bombing missions using conventional bombs in early 1945. All of this was retaliation for the Japanese bombing our ships and Harbor on Decemeber 7, 1941 and waging war against us and our allies after that.

Was there a 3RD nuclear bomb for Japan?

It was being assembled but not yet on the Island of Tinian. The 3rd bomb arrived in San Francisco on August 18, 1945 (4 days after the surrender) for Tibbets to fly back to Tinian. As the war was already over, it was then returned to Los Alamos. The U.S. bomb production schedule and facilities were ready to drop another 20 more on Japan in 1945, if needed. The schedule was as follows:September, 3 bombs (plutonium core)October, 3 bombs (plutonium core)November, 7 bombs (composite plutonium/uranium core)December, 7 bombs (composite plutonium/uranium core)So actually, there was not only a 3rd bomb scheduled for Japan, but a grand total of 23 nuclear bombs scheduled for Japan in 1945 if they failed to surrender!Swords of Armageddon, by Chuck Hanson.

What important events happened in the 1940s?

I think the most important event of the 1940's was world war 2. On December 7, 1941 Japan bombed Pearl Harbor Hawaii which pushed America into the war. In August of 1945 President Truman ordered the 2 atomic bombs to be dropped on Japan in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombs devastated Japan and forced them to end the war between the United States and Japan. After the war the "Marshall plan" was implemented for the rebuilding of Europe.

How long did it take to make all three atomic bombs?

As of august 1945 the US had the industrial capacity to make 3 atomic bombs a month. In november 1945 this would increase to 7 atomic bombs a month. As Japan surrendered before this, the US scaled back production and had only made 9 atomic bombs by the end of Operation Crossroads in the summer of 1946, five of which had been detonated.

How many bomb were droped in World War 2?

I have seen the figure of 7 million tons of bombs were dropped, thrown or put into artillery. I think the figure is probably higher world wide. The number of bombs is not how the military records and accounts for bombs. They go by tonnage not by each individual bomb. Trust me if you counted the individual bombs there would tens of millions of them because some air raids dropped over ten thousand bombs in one mission.
