The Union had a number of advantages over the Confederacy. They can be summarized this way:
1. A navy to blockade important Southern ports;
2. A larger man power pool to enlist volunteers and later in a draft;
3. An industrial base to manufacture firearms and ammunition; and
4. A secure number of places both in States and territories for food.
Unions provide strength. Unions provide support. Unions protect.
The Union had more factories to make supplies, since the South's economy relied on cotton. The North also had a larger population. The South's advantages included fighting a war on their own grounds.
It offers advantages such as greater negotiating power with labor unions.
Washington D.C was the unions capital.

There were growing craft unions during the Civil War for a few reasons. One of these reasons that they needed to have unity.
Labor unions realized how good they really had it after World War 1. When the recession hit, they recruited more members. There were new laws put into play that benefited unions and that made for better working conditions for unions.
The people of WW2 were Pro-labor Labor Unions thrived
