Traditional cannons were long before made obsolete , a cannon refers to a weapon which fires directly at its target with no arc, howitzers were the more common form of artillery by this time as they could fire in high arcs beyond the line of sight. However cannons lived on in some areas, e.g. heavy calibre guns in fighters were called cannons.
