I'ts not certain, although some are hailed as heroes and are immortalized in cement and bronze. It does not take much to see why this is foolish of them to do so, as Apartheid fell under its own weight. The country was bankrupt, trade was impossible and the economy was frankly non-existent. It was these factors that saw the NP opening discussions for a peaceful way to devolve the Apartheid system. The only true help that the ANC was, was to replace the NP and govern the state. If this has not happened, the country would have entered a state of civil war that could have dragged on for decades.
