At the end of the Civil War, the South lay in ruins. Three requirements the North demanded included restoring the Union, transforming southern society, and enacting progressive legislation favoring the rights of the freed slaves.

Why is the confederate flag different from the US flag?

The Confederate States of America (CSA) was formed of the southern states that seceded from the United States of America in 1860 and1861 at the onset of the Civil War. Originally there were 7 states then later 11 states in the Confederacy. The first CSA national flag had 7, 11, and then 13 stars in a circle. Two border states (Missouri and Kentucky) did not secede from the Union but had representatives on both the USA and CSA legislatures. That is why there were 13 stars on the first CSA flag. During the Civil War the CSA was not part of the USA, they were considered a separate nation. During the history of the Confederacy there were three different "official" flags of the CSA. After the defeat of the Confederate Army of Virginia and arrest of their President Jefferson Davis the southern states were returned to the United States of America.

What if the CSA won the American Civil War?

If the CSA had won, then the USA would still be divided in two today, with the South keeping its slaves.

Why was the confederate flag different from the union flag?

Because they had different sides. The Confederate States of America (CSA) was formed of the southern states that seceded from the United States of America in 1861 at the onset of the Civil War. If the Confederate States won the Civil War and became an independent country would they have been with the allies or axis when the WW's came?

With a century between the two events, its very difficult to tell. If the CSA became independent, we don't even know that the Second World War would have happened the same way, if it happened at all. My hunch would be that if the CSA became independent but all subsequent events (First World War etc) stayed the same, the CSA would have chosen to remain neutral unless attacked, and that Japan (the only country in a real position to want to attack the CSA) would have left it alone to concentrate on the USA. This also depends on the USA and CSA not having fought another war between themselves after the Civil War. If it had, then the CSA might have chosen to make a joint attack with Japan on the USA.

Why was the confederate flag different from the US flag?

You don't want the same flag as your enemy but they somewhat are similar just like the U.S and Britians flag with the colors. The Confederate States of America (CSA) was formed of the southern states that seceded from the United States of America in 1861 at the onset of the Civil War. Originally there were 7 states then later 11 states in the Confederacy. The first CSA national flag had 7, 11, and then 13 stars in a circle.
