the atomic bomb did a lot of damage to the city Hiroshima and killed 14000 people

Phisically: instant vaporization of all combustable and liquid materials near "ground zero". Politically: the emperor and his generals refused to surrender following the first bomb blast, telling their people that the Americans only had one. After the second bomb the Emperor still didn't want to surrender, but finally agreed. Even then, they wanted to negotiate for the best terms of surrender rather than be concerned about the death of their citizens. The dropping of the atomic bomb initiated vaporization at an instant (turning to carbon), total devastation through Hiroshima and Nagasaki and caused radiation to kill many many more people who died of radiation poison or cancer Radiation for a long period of time until now since World War 2 the day of dropping atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Abnormal babies were frequent in the area near the atom bomb had blast. Cancer rates had gone higher in these areas.

  • blast, pressure wave, strong winds, ground shock
  • thermal flash, electromagnetic radiation infrared
  • prompt radiation, electromagnetic radiation from visible light to gamma rays, neutrons
  • delayed radiation, fallout mostly from fission products but also some due to neutron activation as well as any leftover uranium or plutonium from the bomb, alpha, beta, gamma rays
  • firestorm, enormous fire that sucks oxygen from shelters and creates its own weather
  • EMP, only significant for high yield bombs exploded within the ionosphere, severely damages or destroys electrical and electronic systems (especially semiconductor based electronics) for several hundred miles around ground zero
  • etc.

The Hiroshima and Nagasaki weapons were two different designs of a Fission style nuclear weapon. The major effects of the use of these weapons can depend specifically on the design of the weapon itself. Different weapons have different intended effects. The two bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were designed with blast effect in mind. The altitude at which the bombs were dropped were specifically calculated to maximize the blast effect of the weapons. The other effect as is true with any Nuclear weapon is the radiological effect. Through the transfer of radiation both into the atmosphere and into the ground itself came back later on to harm the people. The effects of the radioactive fallout mere hours after the blasts themselves were the first immediate effect on the people who had survived the blast wave as well as the heat generated from the detonation itself. The combination of blast wave, thermal effects, as well as the radiological effects were the primary effects of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki strikes.
