The main feature of the cold war was that it was NOT A WAR. There were no bombings, airplanes fighting airplanes in aerial combat, no warships fighting warships at sea. The cold war was a "Stand-off" between two sets of atomic weapon armed nations waiting for an excuse to start a war. Which is alot of words to say; so we simply called it a "cold war."

∙ 9y agoThe Cold War is marked by heightened military and political tension between the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc. The Western Bloc consisted of the United States and nations in NATO as well as Japan. The Eastern Bloc included the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact nations.
