segregation is when people are separated de jur or de facto in a society, different groups have their own everything, typically those of one group are considered below the other. in America basically it was whites can trample blacks actual laws limited blacks rights severely, stopping them from holding office for a long time, they did hold office though right before segregation started but right after slavery, and they do now that segregation is over.

basic rules would be blacks have their own schools, bathrooms, parks, neighborhoods, if you were a Realtor you never thought to show someone a neighborhood if it is was of a different race, if someone wanted to see a neighborhood you'd make comments like, its a little darker there, horrible lighting

it was legalized racism
