Most airplanes were piston-powered propeller planes, but some jets vented during and used at the end of WWII by Germany, England, and Japan. There were many differences in rifles too. The U.S. used mostly the M-1903 Springfield bolt action rifle and the Semi-automatic M1 Garand and the full automatic M1918 BAR. Germany used the KAR98 bolt-action rifle, the semi-auto Gewehr 43, and the full-auto STG44. Japan used the Arisaka bolt-action rifles and Great Britain used the bolt action Lee Enfield. Russia used a whole bunch of different rifles including bolt action full auto and semi auto rifles. All sides used somewhat similar sub machine guns, semi-auto pistols, revolvers and air-cooled and water-cooled machine guns. Grenades were used, steel helmets and smoke grenades too. Early missiles were used which normally shot a whole bunch of small rockets. These were not used by all sides until the end of the war. Anti tank cannons and bazookas were used and tanks were also important. In the beginning of WWII, small tanks with small cannons weaker than a bazooka and machine guns were manufactured, but at the end of the war tanks were developed by Germany and Russia that were so powerful that it they were used into the 1980s. Aircraft carriers were also used for the first time and replaced huge battleships. The first nuclear bomb was used by the us, Japan invented suicide missiles and Kamakazes, Germany invented stealths, guided missiles, and early intercontinental missiles, plus some of the first toxic bombs. Napalm was invented and the U.S. made the first unmanned airplane.
