Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente Powers. The Triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. Those three countries promised mutual support if the event of an attack was to occur against any of the countries. The Triple Entente included Great Britain, the French Third Republic, and Russia.(original alliances)

The two alliances during world war one were the Triple Entente (made up of France, Britain, and Russia) and the Triple Alliance that contained the Germans, Austro-Hungarian Empire and Italy. although Italy did switch sides on May 23rd, 1915. So, technically Italy could be considered either or depending on specific dates.
