The primary material was oolitic limestone which was found in abundance on the plataeu where the pyramids were built. Granite was used to line the galleries and burial chambers was quarried 400 miles distant at Aswan. A fine white limestone used for casing the pyramids was quarried in caves at el Tura on the east bank of the Nile. Vast amounts of labour the majority of who were probably slaves.
