The French throne. The Plantagenet house of England had claims to the throne of France back to William the Conqueror of Normandy. The Norman Dukes who later became Kings of England were bound to swear fealty to the French King - and when they had gained England and become more powerful than France it was seen as humiliating for them to continue to swear fealty. And so the Hundred Years War began with the French House of Valois and the English House of Plantagenet both claiming the throne of France.
