He raided and burned the town of Columbus, New Mexico, killing 18 and wounding 8 before escaping back across the border. It was a costly invasion, of his 500 man force he had 80 killed and 5 captured and he had 100 wounded among those who escaped.

They refused to accept the validity of the Treaty of Velasco. Without recognition, the border required constant guarding and the Comanche raided ac-cross at will and were free to take their spoils to safety n Mexico. Since Santa Anna was not allowed to return to Mexico and was kept as a prisoner of War, Texas was in Violation of the Treaty,
