Many nursing schools are very competitive. When appling, you will be accepted faster if you have a high GPA from your high school or previous college classes. Also, they like to see that you have some experience in the medical field. Try volunteering at a hospital or other facility to get some experience.

40 years old what do you need to start nursing school?

It depends on the school and the type of nursing program. If you already have a college degree, you need to contact someone in the school of nursing you wish to attend to find out which pre-requisite courses you need before you start your nursing courses. This is called an Accelerated Second Degree Program and should take 15-24 months to complete. If you have some college courses (or none) but do not yet have a college degree, you need to apply to the school of your choice. Some may require SATs; some times they are not required for adults returning to school. You can call to arrange a meeting with someone in the School of Nursing to see if they can provide guidance for you. These programs award a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. They do require you to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. If you are interested in an Associate's Degree in Nursing, you may need to take a pre-test in addition to applying to the school. Again, this is determined by each school separately. All other requirements are part of the admission process specific to that school. They often include background checks and drug screens. Age is not a factor in nursing programs.
