Usually a dead short in the wiring some where : check for cracks in wires ,key gone to ground, exctra exc.....
Some engine oil has entered the muffler when the mower was tipped, it will burn off after you run it, make sure the oil level is correct (don't overfill) as this can cause similar problems.

Drain it and dilute with gas while engine is hot so that you can burn it out. You will be hard pressed to crank it cold on diesel. If the engine is cole, spray carb cleaner in carb to warm it and burn it clean.

I would sugguest using SAE 30, you CAN but expect it to either burn it or lessen the life of the engine. SuperTech brand in wal-mart sells this cheap stuff along with convential motor oil and synthetic, I use it because its no different than any other oils at a cheaper price.
