The worst thing one can do when coming off of any anti depressant is to do so "cold turkey." The best way to minimize symptoms is to SLOWLY decrease your dosage. I know of people who had enlarged pupils, complaimned of severe dizziness, nausea, mood changes, anger, sleep disturbances, 'brain shivers, and an inabilty to think and verbalise normally. You should begin your dicontinuation (obviously as supervised by your doctor) but additionally start when you know you do not have to drive, work and can get rest. Ideally take a smaller dose for example on a firday night, so you can begin to anticipate how and to what degree the withdrawl symptoms will be; prior to having to perform. I know some people have been actually sent home from work as it can be very apparent to others, that something is 'not right'.
Typical symptoms to expect are usually the same ones as when you initially began to take the medication. Use caution when getting up from a seated position, do not move, or turn your head rapidly (as this is known to cause brain shivers) and most of all remember if your symptoms are concerning, slow down the process and consult a specialist. Too many doctors are perscribing serious medications at walk in clinics and do not consider that the patient needs to be informed of the effects. I was very angry when i found out for example that seroquel - perscribed to help me sleep, is known to cause restless leg syndrome...so yes, read the pamphlets, ask your doctor questions, but also do your own research. Not all people respond the same way. If you are on other medications they may play a role in some symptoms that cannot be accounted for in a general pamphlet. Amy McNally.
What are some of the withdrawal symptoms of effexor?
The withdrawal symptoms of Effexor XR include restlessness, irritability, weight gain, and tremors. Dose reduction is recommended to reduce possible side effects. Discontinuing use suddenly is not recommended.
Celexa does not have a withdrawal syndrome (or even a discontinuation syndrome as is the case with abrupt cessation of Paxil or Effexor, for instance).
No, and it doesn't even have the discontinuation syndrome found with Paxil and Effexor.
how long does the effexor withdrawl symptoms disappear after you stop taking it, i am taking zoloft now but i am having effexor symptoms
1-20 Years 1 If you are very lucky
Yes, you can. As a matter of fact, my Dr. prescribed me Xanax solely for this purpose. I was on 150mg Effexor XR, and switched to Zoloft. The Xanax was to be used while tapering down the Effexor and then ramping up the Zoloft. The Xanax was a lifesaver dealing with increased anxiety while going through the Effexor withdrawal and waiting for the Zoloft to "kick in". Talk to your Dr., as I'm not one, but I think you'd be fine using the Xanax as a very temporary aid while going through the withdrawal.
I am currently on Effexor and have been wondering the same thing. From the research I've done, it would seem that taking it IS NOT harmful. Actually, the extreme stress and mental/emotional strain of Effexor withdrawal and going without it for months can actually be MORE harmful for the well-being of the baby than if you stayed on. An option, if you are worried, is to slowly reduce your dosage (with the help of your doctor!) throughout your pregnancy, ending up on a minimal/no dose by the time you deliver. That way, the baby will not go through any withdrawal from the medication once it is born. Taking Effexor during breastfeeding doesn't seem to be a problem, as only minimal traces of the medicine actually make it into the breast milk.
The ecstasy will do nothing at all. Effexor is type of drug called "SNRI" -- which blocks ecstasy from working. Here's testimony from someone who successfully rolled on ecstasy after quitting Effexor for 4 days: "I rolled on ecstasy (mdma) after breaking from effexor (venlafaxine) for 4 days and I felt a strong affect - it was fantastic. I used to roll before ever taking effexor; the affect was probably stronger then. I also tried rolling after breaking from effexor for only 3 days; the affect was mild. After 2 days of breaking from effexor, I begin to feel withdrawal symptons and take a benzodiazepine (usually klonopin) for a day or two to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms. After 4 days of breaking from effexor, there's only about 1mg of the medication left in my body due to effexor's very short half-life (i.e. less than 12 hours). I've been taking 150mg of effexor daily for 2 years. I'm male, 29 years old, and 170 lbs. Naturally, you might metabolize effexor faster or slower than I do depending on your body and metabolism."
No withdrawal symptoms does have ibuprofen in it cymbalta help fibromyalgia pain effect on dopamine clonazepam.
Depending on your dosing, within roughly 24-36 hours of your last dose. Note that Effexor should hot be stopped "cold turkey", but instead should be tapered off. As the prescribing doctor for a safe way to do this.
