Well, in the old days, they would quarantine the sick person and the family of the sick person into houses or ghettos so they couldn't infect others.
You won't have to worry about the plague right about now, but I assume if a plague did appear suddenly, medical experts would get their butts in high gear. The quarantine would most likely still be used, but much more civilly ie: the government would supply food and daily needs.
