different timbers have different qualities.
with specifics: a sound board is best made from softwoods like: pine, spruce, cedar etc
a flamenco guitar would have a softwood back too
rosewood Maple and mahogany - which are hardwoods are highly appraised due to their qualities and can construct sides back and neck.
for bridges and finger boards very hard woods like - maple rosewood ebony and wenge
for bracing - recommended Adirondack (red) Spruce
Their is no "best" wood for necks. As long as it's hard and stable it should be fine. One may think maple is the best wood to use for necks while another may think mahogany is better. Sound and feel of the woods are slightly different and not better than one another.
Many different woods are used. Common woods used for acoustic Guitars include: spruce, mahogany, maple, rosewood, koa Woods used for electrics include: Alder, maple, rosewood, mahogany, basswood, poplar,
Guitars are made of many woods, such as Mahogany, Rosewood, Spruce, Ebony, Maple, and so on. The price of a guitar is often affected by the wood it is made of. For example, a guitar made of inexpensive laminated wood would cost less than a guitar made of carefully selected, quality wood. There is no rule of thumb on this matter. Most guitar stores provide information on materials used in a guitar, including the type of wood used on the fretboard and the body of the guitar.
Many like mohany for the body of an acoustic, and solid spruce for the top. I prefer cedar for the top myself because it a bit warmer tone. Some like maple for the body because of the volume it produces. For an electric, maple is a common wood. I built an Electric Guitar using a walnut burle for the body and it sounded very nice.
THe best wood for a guitar is mohogany. Mohogany is sturdy, and doesnt break easy. Not saying that it wont break if u drop it tho.
To many variations to answer its a personal preference as each wood will have different properties (denseness of grain etc.) this will give the guitar different tonal properties.
