Basswood, definately. It's very fine grained and soft. Oak is much harder.
Basswood does not take stain like oak. While oak has a pronounced grain that absorbs stain evenly, basswood has a fine, even texture and less pronounced grain, which can result in a blotchy appearance when stained. It is often recommended to use a pre-stain wood conditioner on basswood to achieve a more uniform finish. Overall, if you want a similar look to stained oak, you may need to adjust your staining technique for basswood.
Basswood is a favorite of carvers. It's easy to work with, has no grain, very lightweight. Mahogany is another nice choice. Strong and fairly light, it has great furniture-making qualities of stability and straight grain. Butternut looks almost like oak. Also easy to carve. Obeche is very soft and easy to carve if you can get it.
oak is better for building
Oak is better as it is a harder wood.
yes, oak or maple are better material for a desk, they are both solid wood.
oak is better I quite agree with above. Oak will blend better with other furniture of mixed woods ... Cherry seems (at least to me) to be a very dark wood that blends better with darker finishes. Got an antique oak chair that still looks great and pleasant to sit in.
oak is a very hard wood
Oak furniture is more durable than cherry wood. It withstands the abuse of every day use. Oak is also a more common wood and would therefore be less expensive to purchase.
It depends on what type of wood, and what you are using it for. Steel is strong, but oak is also very dependable.
Green is not a species of wood- it just means recently cut wood that still contains much of the moisture and sap of the living tree. When cured (means dried) it will burn much better. Cured Oak is among the best firewood for heat.
oak wood
Oak will hold up much better because it is a heavier wood and is much more durable.
