It actually depends on what you intend the wood to be used for after. A hard wood will expand and contract slightly slower as the fibers are closer to gether in the hard wood compaired to pine which is a softwood. Plus hard woods because of their slow grow rate are normally more expensive therefore laminating to pine is kept to a minimum.
