Tarzan novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs are classified by some bibliophiles ( and book stores) as Science Fiction. Frankenstein, as it deals with artificially re-animated life, might be termed Occult science fiction. There were some straight writers such as Robert Louis Stevenson ( Treasure Island( who did ONE science fiction opus- in his case Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This does not make Stevenson a science-fiction writer of the caliber of Verne, in my opinion.
