As of 2012 US nickels are worth 7 or 8 cents in raw metal. However it's illegal to melt them for private sale, and even if you could find a metal dealer willing to break the law and buy the coins the dealer's processing costs and retail/wholesale price spread would eliminate any potential profit.
If I could predict the future of the silver market, I'd be a very rich man. No one knows what the price of silver will do in the future. At present it is worth about $1.75 for the silver.
