One of the most dramatic ways that you can influence the decor of a room is to install curtains. Curtains can be dramatic and aside from the color of the walls are dominant features in the room. The right curtains and drapes can make any room look better instantly. They can be used to frame a window, creating a focal point around which the furniture in the room can be arranged. They can also be used to create certain moods. For instance, heavy curtains can create a strong and cozy look, while sheer curtains can create a mood of tranquility and airiness. Installing curtains into a room also presents the decorator with a chance to upgrade any hardware that holds up the curtains. When choosing curtains, one of the first things you have to think about is what kind of design you are trying to achieve and what the function of the room will be. After you determine this, you can think about the type of fabric that you want for your window treatments. For example, if you’re decorating an office or a library that has rich, wood paneling, you may want to select a fabric that is heavier and has more bulk to create a rich and luxurious look that will compliment the setting. On the other hand, if you’re decorating a child’s room or an enclosed porch, you may want to choose sheer curtains that will let in a lot of light, yet keep your privacy. Many people overlook the importance of curtain rods, but curtain rods are just as important as the drapes themselves in creating a harmonious, cohesive look. The proper curtain rod should complement the drape that hangs from it. Heavier drapes look good on prominent, wood rods that also have the strength to support the weight. If you have sheer curtains, choosing a thin rod that blends into the background is an excellent option that will not detract from or interfere with the sheers. Choosing the right curtains and curtain hardware can make all the difference in a room. Different window treatments can chance the appearances and mood of a room dramatically. By carefully choosing the right drapes for your room, you can have the room of your dreams in no time.
The height at which a shower curtain rail or rod is mounted is determined by the following:The length of the shower curtain to be used. Ready made shower curtains are set lengths--typically 70 - 72 inches high. If you intend to use these without modifying them, check what lengths are available and set the rail height so that the curtain is clear of the floor of the shower so it will drain dry, and allowing at least a couple of centimetres gap for a little stretch in the fabric. If the shower base has a lip to stop the curtain blowing out, the curtain should be set to hang in contact with this by at least 50mm/2 inches. The standard size of a shower curtain is 70 inches wide by 72 inches high. Assume that the shower curtain will hang approximately 1-1/2 inches below the center of the rod and that you would like the curtain to hang 3 inches above the floor of the shower. Then the rod should be mounted with its center at 76-1/2 inches (72 + 1 1/2+ 3 = 76 1/2) above the floor. You should measure the length of the shower curtain first. It should hang 3-4 inches below the edge of a tub, or a couple of inches longer than the step of a walk in shower.Extra long shower curtains are available should you need them.
A good, solid, opaque plastic and a set of O rings would be best, strung along a sturdy pole. Failing that, some heavy furnishing fabric that's been laminated might do the trick.
I would like to buy a new shower door. Where can I find an affordable shower door online?
The purpose of a shower curtain is to contain water - keeping it off the floor and the wall, especially if it is not covered in a waterproof surface material. One important factor in hanging the curtain is the height of the people showering. A tall person whose head is closer to the shower head will put a lot more water up and out of the shower enclosure than a shorter person. In the planning stages of a plumbing project, you can place the shower head higher than normal (nice for us tall folks, anyway) to minimize spray deflection. But if this is a case of a new curtain rod only, take note of where droplets remain after you shower, and plan to place the curtain rod where it will deflect the spray. This is unfair on taller people, however, as standard shower curtains can only be raised so far before they let water out the bottom! Perhaps you'll need to buy or make an extra-long curtain; maybe add coordinating fabric to the top or bottom of a standard curtain. If height is not an issue, hang a curtain liner on the rod and hold it up over the tub; the bottom of the liner should fall securely into the tub, but not lie on the bottom. Mark the bracket position and be sure to hang the rod level. Remember to keep close watch on the painted surfaces inside the shower enclosure: if your tile stops short of the spray-line, you'll be repainting more often to keep moisture out of the drywall. It is always a good practice to wipe walls after showering, to keep nasty things like mold and mildew at bay. Even the best latex paint is no match for standing water, and you certainly don't want your drywall compromised. Good luck! Jill Murtagh, Murtagh Interiors
