plastic is non corrosive therefor creates a barrier between the iron and moisture/salt/oxygen, all of which would corrode iron or steel to form iron oxide (rust)

One can make plastic into liquid by melting it down. Different types of plastics have different melting points. High-density polyethylene plastic is the easiest to melt at 265 degrees Fahrenheit.
You could use a magnet to attract the steel ball bearings and then you would be left with the plastic beads.
The melting point really depends on the type of steel. But no type of steel would usually melt at 1000 degrees (Celsius or Fahrenheit).
Would you use plastic or wood .
It prevents oxygen and moisture from combining on the metal which would create rust.
The melting point of high speed steel is around 2,375-2,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,303-1,371 degrees Celsius). This high melting point is one of the reasons why high speed steel is commonly used for cutting tools and in high-temperature applications where other materials would fail.
Cutting the bar in half, melting it, heating it, grinding or filing it, drilling holes in it- and it is still steel. It has not changed chemically.
In my opinion i would say plastic, stainless steel and wood
Stainless steel would be frozen at room temperature because it is a solid. The melting point of stainless steel is about 1510 degrees Celsius, and the melting point is the same as the freezing point. So, at any point below 1510 degrees Celsius, stainless steel is a solid, therefore frozen.
