Could be alot of different things. But It sounds to me like the fuel filter is clogged..
1st you start up the car. Hook up a voltmeter to the battery, and put a load on the battery as the car is running (have the lights on, radio on, high beam on,...) after you put a load on the battery read the voltmeter. if it goes below 12 the alternator is bad. It souldn't be no more than 14 volts. you can also use the battery gauge but to be 100% sure hook voltmeter to the alternator.
There are a number of ways to test an alternator, 1,Set your voltmeter to DC most preferable set the meter to 20volts.2,with the engine running, disconnect one of the battery terminals from the battery head. 2,connect the voltmeter to the battery terminal wires and take your reading.
If the alternator is not charging the battery, then it will eventually go dead If the voltage regulator (in the alternator) is defective it will eventually kill the battery Check the alternator with a voltmeter A fully charged battery (without engine running) should read approx. 12.8 volts With engine running should read 13.8-14.2 volts
Connect a voltmeter to the alternator and start the engine. An automotive alternator should read aprox 14.5 Volts when it's running and the battery is fully charged.
Check to see if the alternator is working Connect a voltmeter to battery: Without engine running reading should be about 12.8 With engine running reading should be 13.8-14.2 If not bad alternator
The alternator may not be charging it enough. With the engine running at an idle check the voltage at the battery with a DC digital voltmeter. It should read from 13.5 to 15.5 Volts. Anymore, or any less, and the alternator is suspect. You might also have a defective battery.
Test the battery with a digital voltmeter. You should get a reading of 12.6 V if the battery is fully charged. If the battery is fully charged then you know the alternator is functioning properly and your problem is more than likely a defective starter.

Check voltage with a voltmeter at the battery With engine running readings should be 13.8-14.2 With engine running hold a screw driver to the back of the alternator, if there is no magnetic field, the alternator is bad.
That would tend to indicate that the alternator was not charging the battery for that interval.

Borrow a digital DC voltmeter, attach the meter to the positive and negative battery posts, if the battery is healthy and fully charged it should read 12.68 volts, now start the engine and monitor the voltmeter, if the battery is fully charged and the alternator is healthy the meter should read 14.2 volts (give or take .3). If the voltage fails to reach that goal the alternator is probably faulty.
