What would cause a 1993 Ford Probe GT to hitch when accelerating and to burn oil when the engine first fires up?

Smoke on start up indicates worn valve seals and guides. This won't cause any problems other than a little smoke at first start. Hitch when accelerating... impossible to answer that one. All the usual stuff I guess. When was the last time it had a GOOD tune up? Have you checked the computer for any codes? If it has a real problem the computer will usually display a code to indicate what's wrong. Suggest you start there.
