check you alternator start the car or if you cant jump it. Then disconnect the negative wire and if it still runs then its something else if it dies then its your alternator.

I t can cause a shimmy in the front end while driving if it is wore bad enough. It can cause your tires to wear abnormally. If it completely breaks, it can cause you to loose control of steering on the tire that it broke off of.
Loose wire? I recommend asking this question specifying if you have manual or automagic transmission.
