If there are no codes set it means the problem you may have is not computer related.
no it wont cause the engine mountings are different
check to see is power steering pump is locked-up.
Perhaps it is your pcv valve or rubber elbow connector that is hooked up to the pcv valve.
Many check engine lights are hooked to the odometer and come on every so many miles, otherwise you need to download fault codes. GET A MANUAL!
There are hundreds of different codes that can cause the check engine light to come on. It needs to have a code reader hooked up to find out the specific code. Most auto parts stores will do this for free.
If a tune up was done recently then the spark plugs and the wires are hooked up wrong. If not then the engine could be out of time, or be extremely low on fluids. Good luck.
Car audio connectors may cause sound problems if they are not hooked up correctly. The sound may not be clear or there may be no sound at all. Check the manual which came with the connectors to make sure they are hooked up properly.
Could be a blown head gasket or one of your mates is playing tricks on you. Is there any water in the engine oil, it will be a creamy white sort of colour. If you have access to a exhaust gas analyser stick the sniffer in the radiator just above the water when it is hot. If it picks up exhaust gases you have a blown head gasket.

There are a multitude of reasons why the check engine light could come on - you need to have an OBDII scanner hooked up and pull fault codes to determine the cause. As for resetting it, fixing the problem which causes it would be the best way to go.
It may work but it is not advisable. Could cause disconnects and packet loss which would interfere with Internet access.
