I changed the gas tank, gas lines, the fuel filter, tightened all connections back to front, changed the charchol cannister, checked the filler pipe, changed vacumn lines on the charchol cannister and could not come heck or high water see any sign of a leak or even a seepage. I was really beside myself , thinking to change the "o" rings on the fuel injector ports or just sell the car for parts as I thought being high millage (but still a good vehicle) that it was unsolveable. ..i consulted one garage and the service manager of a local Nissan dealer to no avail when I did something that was sugested to me but seemed too simple as I thought there was absolutly nothing wrong with it....I changed the gas cap with a Canadian tire replacement!....that was it!....10 bucks!
if its raw gas fumes that you smell more than likeley its a hose or the filter from the charcoal vapor canister which filters smells from the gas tank and fuel delivery system located under the hood thus allowing fumes to get into the air intake (right under the wiper blades, the black grille)for the heat/ac system THE MYSTERY MECHANIC STRIKES AGAIN !!!!
smells like gas fumes mercury villageri think your gas smell is likely broken manifold bolts letting exhaust fumes in your van had same problem bolts broken at back of head and making exhaust niose also not to cheap to fix . there is stronger bolts you can get from Ford or Nissan good luck thanks kenI think the odor filling the cab comes from the fuel filler tube needing replaced (for which there is a recall on the 95 Villager). Mine does the same thing. I start the van in the winter... to warm up...when I go to get in after about 15mins or so...its warm in there alright...but smells of raw gas. Im about to junk it. It has cost me so much money... & I gotta spend more now because Im going on my 2nd fuel pump in 4 years.

cause it is really dirty.. (time to get another one)
It will cause those and eventually will shut down your engine until the filter is changed or cleaned.
It would if it is so clogged that is blocks the flow of gasoline to the engine.Yes, if an insufficient amount of fuel is getting through the fuel filter.
The gas is probably not leaking into the filter but the engine. It's caused by a broken diaphragm on the fuel pressure regulator. Replace regulator
fuel pump was coming on before changed fuel filter now its not is there a reason for this
The cabin air filter can not cause a rough idle. It only filters the air for the ac/heater.
Try blowing through the old fuel filter you replaced, if it is plugged solid, remove the new filter and check that one. If the new is plugged up you may have picked up a load of dirty gasoline. If the new filter is clean, have the fuel pressure checked, you may have a failing fuel pump.
I don't know about the Explorer but I had an experience with a Ford Mustang. I changed about everything I could think of related to the non-starting problem. Then I discovered there was a filter in the gas tank. Changed it and the problem disappeared!
In the cooling system it transfers heat out through the radiator. If mixed with the gasoline, it can cause rough running or no start. If pulled in through the air filter it can cause a catastrophic failure.
it cause chicken to be fried
Look for gasoline leak at fuel injectors. You can usually smell it. If no leak change air filter. A plugged air filter can cause too rich mixture and too much gas usage. Also inspect gasline from tank to gas filter and around filter.
Change the fluid and the trans filter; a dirty trans filter can cause this.
