What would cause no interior lights on a 99 Mercury Cougar?

Have you tried turning the knob that turns your head lamps on? Sometimes that will turn your interior lights back on. Also, you might check the fuse box that is located under the dash on the drivers side, there may be a fuse blown.

my son bought a 1996 cougar that felt like the transmition was slipping and we had the transmission flushed and it fixed it.

it is in the manual says when this happens it is 02 sensor and if it is flashing you have a miss in your engine which can cause damage.

On your light switch there is a dimmer for the dash lights . if you turn it all the way to the left your interior lights should come on , turn it to the left and see if that works otherwise it might be a door switch .

Press dome override button 3 or 4 times till you here a beep to put headlights and interior lights back on auto

The dimmer switch when turned just past high, turns on the interior lights. There are switches in the door opening that turns the lights off when the door is closed. Either one of these can cause the lights to stay on if they fail.

i have the same problem my dash light turns on when i turn on the interior lights but when i turn on only ........the dash light they wont turn on but they work when the interior lights are on ........so they do work .,...is there a separate fuse ?

aerodnamics are such that there isn't much airflow past the alternator and high loads cause them to overheat

There is a spot, all the way down, on the dimmer 'scroll-wheel' type dial that will disable the interior lightsWhen I had one of those common problems with the false 'door ajar' situations, my 2001 SEL deactivated the interior lights. Once I resolved the false signals coming from the liftgate, the interior lights automatically started behaving normally all by themselves.See "Related Questions" below for more
