well what would happen if it was a major eruption and if it was even bigger like then one back in 79 AD then a lot more destruction would happen towns would be whipped out, people would probably die (if they didn't have warning or did not evacuate in time) and it would just be chaos for them.
If Mt. Vesuvius erupted today, scientists expect it to be a tremendous explosion, because it is overdue for an eruption.

Mount Vesuvius erupted in the 21st century. A number of citizens were killed by the falling walls and roofs.
All would be fine and no one would die at all :)
There already is a city near Mount Vesuvius: Naples. Naples has been there since long before anyone knew Mount Vesuvius was dangerous. The land around Mount Vesuvius is desireable because the volcanic soil is very fertile and excellent for growing crops.
Death, loss of some Italian economy and loss of even more money (no tourism, disaster, aid). Still in the short term would be Italy begging the EU for more financial and humanitarian aid, Germany would get angry. Possible long-term effect: WW3. Thankfully, though, it's dormant.
It Was Rome. Because It Only Erupted 100 miles per hour, Neraly 2,000 Degrees So It Would Be Basically Impossible For It To Touch Rome :P
People were getting on with there daily business then suddenly there was a minor earthquake followed by another people went inside there houses and held children and valuables close. The people in Herculaneum went to the boat houses but most of the men stayed on the beach. None of the towns could see the warning signs: minor earthquakes and streams and wells to dry up. Around noon Vesuvius erupted.
When it erupted in 79AD it covered 65 acres of land and killed 25,000 people. It is still active today with 3 million people living below. If it erupted today the damage would be much greater.
How to get out quickly when Vesuvius erupted. The money the laws the traditions
No volcanoes in Texas.
We all die.
it would solidify and make new land

everyone would die!:(
Today millions live around it and there isn't much you could do if it blows up like it did in 79AD. The ash cloud covered everything in the area within 7 minutes. It changed the coastline and buried 65 acres and 3 cities. When you are there today you don't think about the fact you are near an active volcano. I was there and didn't worry about it.
what would happen if the microprocessor flaw happen today
The earth would have to be a supermassive dying star to emit gamma rays.

Mount Vesuvius still has the potential to produce large, explosive eruptions similar to the one that destroyed Pompeii in the year 79. The population surrounding Vesuvius now is much larger than it was 2,000 years ago. An eruption today would put millions of people in danger.
