Well, nuclear war. Both countries would likely be destroyed by missile and nuclear weapons. They do host the world's first and second largest nuclear arsenals (to many people's surprises, Russia is ahead of the US. In fact, theres is almost twice the size of Americas).
I doubt a soldier would even touch either countries land.

∙ 11y agoIf Russia were to launch an ICBM with a nuclear warhead at the United States, there are a number of things that the USA government would try to do. Firstly, they would try to confirm with the Russian government if it was indeed their warhead and not just that of a rogue organization. If it could be confirmed as Russian, strategically placed nuclear missiles might be shot at Russia, but barring that there would certainly be a declaration of war and the use of conventional missiles and weaponry. Additionally, using radar, the trajectory of the missile could be calculated and a missile would be shot up with the intention of causing the nuclear missile to explode in transit (i.e. over the ocean) instead of in the target city.
However, even with a President as militaristic as Putin is, it is very unlikely that the Russians will launch a nuclear weapon at the United States. Putin prefers soft power to hard power.
