In military terms, there are several options. A drone attack might be used to assassinate high level officials, a nuclear attack might be used to destroy the country completely, a conventional invasion of ground troops might be used to seize control of the government, although that last option is very unlikely since it would be far too costly. And since war is often about doing the unexpected, the US might attack North Korea is some entirely different way that I have not imagined. However, what the US almost certainly will do is wait. The US does not need to attack North Korea unless North Korea does make good on its threat to attack the US. At that point, the severity of the North Korean attack is likely to determine the kind of response the US will make. Certainly a nuclear attack, which North Korea has threatened, would result in a nuclear response, which would be very severe, probably killing every person in North Korea and leaving the country a radioactive wasteland that will be uninhabitable for a thousand years to come.

Why did Korea choose isolation?

HUH? Last time Korea was isolated was right after the Opium Wars in China. They didn't want the same thing to happen in Korea. South Korea never had a policy of isolation. If you're talking about North Korea, If life sucks as bad as it does in North Korea, would you like your people to know that people outside of North Korea actually have 3 meals a day? North Korea is so successful in isolation, people in North Korea think they are better off than the people in South Korea.

Most likely North.

What would happen if South Korea invaded North Korea?

First, South Korea alone will not be able to win the war by themselves against the North. There were actually a plan ,or a senario, made by the USA, Bush Govt. First, South Korea will bomb the North and try to engage in a war state with the North Korea. By the time when the nuclear or whatever missile drops back in Seoul, South Korea by the North Korean, they would have not enough left then to attack to defend their country. Simply, later, USA will ally with South Korea and engage in a war too. By that time, North Korea will have no chance of winning the battle. After the war will be over, I probably think UN will take over the country and manage the land. That's about it.

Does North Korea have any probable chances of defeating the US in the case of war?

North Korea cannot possibly defeat the US in case of war. They can, however, do great harm to South Korea. I expect that if North Korea attacks the US directly rather than just attacking US troops which are already in South Korea, there would be an overwhelming retaliation. Remember that during the Cold War era, the US was prepared to go to war with the entire Soviet bloc, which was roughly half the world. The US has vastly more military power than it would need to deal with North Korea.
