Lizards in deserts eat insects, and are in turn eaten by snakes, birds and other animals in this subtly diverse biome. Removal of lizards would allow insect populations to increase, and those creatures that prey on lizards would not fare as well. The system of life there would be out of balance, and a new equilibrium would appear. This new profile of desert fauna may or may not be "better" for the desert biome, but it will be different, and the loss of the lizards may turn out to be a "bad" thing.
