The roman numeral system did not have a zero. They still managed to count and work things out, but it was difficult.
There is a chance that advanced mathematics, would not have progressed so fast and it would have an affect on our technology.
Zero was used (and probably invented) by the persians and used in arabic script. (This has nothing to do with any religion and predates most modern religions).
No trade and commerce would have been possible.
