Legitimate bars, lounges, clubs, brewpubs, wineries, breweries, and distilleries would go out of business, throwing thousands of people out of work in those industries and the industries that support them. A huge black market would be created, causing all sorts of organized crime to grow that, in turn, would cause the government to divert valuable resources to combat. If you thought the war on drugs was a losing proposition, the war on booze would be a complete disaster.

The prohibition law in the United States, which banned the production and sale of alcohol from 1920 to 1933, did not achieve its intended goals. It led to an increase in organized crime, underground speakeasies, and a rise in illegal alcohol production. Ultimately, the law was repealed due to widespread public dissatisfaction and enforcement challenges.
