air pockets in the cooling system, start by bleeding the lines, plus there is a bypass for the heater core when you have the a/c turned on, or your heater isn't on, this fluctuate between makes and models. but i would go to youtube and look up how to bleed coolant lines, and that should make it easy for you.

the transmissions are different 2000 takes ax4s 2001 take ax4n motors would fit some sensors make need to be transfered
my 2001 ford windstar will turn over and make a clanking noise like metal to metal is hitting? Just replaced the starter and had the battery checked what would be the problem?
MAKE sure that is the problem. If heater is blowing cold air, reach on passenger side, under dash, and find the heater blower, and gently pull the white plastic piece to make sure it is not stuck on cold. They go from hot to cold easily but not back to heat.
The year, make and model info would help but generally the heater blower motor resister is located close by the heater blower motor.
