You need to reboot in order for the changes to take affect.
To reinstall windows ME over XP pro you should boot from the ME CD. Exit from the setup program to DOS. Then use the fdisk command. Remove all existing partitions. Create a primary partition. Then reboot(required for all changes by fdisk to take effect). Boot from the ME CD again. Exit the setup program to dos. Run the format c: /s command (c: being the drive you are working on). When the format is done run the windows ME setup program. Let the installation finish. You're all set.

This depends on the age of the kernel being used, the type of drive, and the software used to partition the drive. Older Linux systems had a limit of 63 partitions for IDE drives and 15 for SCSI. Kernels before around 2.6.28.5 that used libATA limited all drives to 15 partitions. Experimentation with more recent kernels indicates a limit around 130 partitions per drive. Many partitioning programs available for Linux are still limited to 63 partitions or less.
Preparing a Hard drive for Windows 98Usually, the problem is with the state of the hard drive at the time of the istallation. There are two utilities included on the 'Windows Start Up Disk', one of which is 'fdisk', and the other is 'format.' These utilities must be used in the proper order to insure that the disk is ready for the Widows installation. First, from the DOS prompt A:\ type in 'fdisk'. Then, select the appropriate option to create a partition on the hard drive. (Note: Any data currently on the hard drive will be lost! Be sure to back up all data prior to re-installing Windows!) I recommend creating at least two partitions, one being for the operating system, and the other being a virtual disk to store software, documents, and anything elese that is important. I suggest assigning one third of the disk to the operating system, which is usually on the drive designated as 'c', and the the rest of the drive to one or more virtual disks. This protects your critical data if the operating system is compromised. The partition to be used for the operating system (Windows) must be made active prior to leaving the fdisk program. The computer should be re-booted upon exiting fdisk, to insure that the changes are properly made. After rebooting, again from the DOS prompt A:\, type 'format c:'. You will be asked if you are sure you want to do this, because, again, any data on the specified drive will be lost. After c drive is formatted, format any virtual drives which you have created. This should prepare the hard disk drive for installing Windows 98. Be aware that Windows 98 has a minimum space requirement, which, if not met, will prevent Windows from installing.
SCSI does not care about partitions. This is only the protocol used to interface with the harddisk. There is probably a practical limit to the possible number of partitions on your SCSI drive. This is limited by its size mostly. Normal limitations on partitions is something like 3 Primary partitions and one extended of which can contain more logical partitions. However not being 100% sure about limitations I find it logical to be about 127 or 255. In any case more than what is practical for most uses. It is greatly dependent upon which operatingsystem you use. A partition is only controlled via software or even software in hardware. Designing software for it, and you can easily have thousands of "partitions". it is like having a book. If you write the book yourselves, you decide how many chapters this book will consist of. You decide the size of each chapter.
If the partitions are portable, cab-tire cords can be used to feed power to the partitions. The cords must not lay on the floor and be free of people walking over them. If the partitions are permanent they have to be hard wired and this usually means being fed from the floor below or wire mold has to be used on the floor surface where the supply power crosses areas where people walk. The other way power can be brought to the partitions is through a pac pole. These poles protrude through the tee bar ceiling and pick up power from above the hanging ceiling.

A partition is the opposite of something being open. Many companies put partitions in between employees desks to given them some type of privacy.
