You could tell how the weather was, if the area was covered with trees, or a more desert-like area- dependant on how the animal lived. Maybe even compare it to other fossils, to give a more precise estimate on how it was back in the day. By looking at different fossils from different time periods, you would be able to see the development of the area trough the ages.
